Trout in the Rigolets
by Captain Steve Himel on 03/30/13I made a quick scouting trip this morning to the Rigolets. I got a late start and picked up 25 live shrimp at the boat launch. I fished in one area the whole morning. The pattern was finding moving water at the mouths of bayous emptying into lagoons on the rising tide. The trout were on the bottom in 6' to 10' of water. I was using a Carolina rig with a quarter ounce sliding sinker. I was tossing the bait up current and letting is drift back with the current. The trout are still scattered but they are starting to bite. In a few hours I picked up a few trout and a flounder. The trout were from 15" to 20". Things looks like they are back on track and the spring bite should only get better. I have a new boat 25' boat being built by Mr. B's and it should be ready by mid April. I am booking spring trophy trout tips in Lake Pontchartrain and summer trips to Breton Sound out of Delacroix. I offer 4, 6 and 8 hour trips.
