Big Hogs In Breton Sound
by Captain Steve Himel on 06/07/13
I have been busy with charters
and dancing around the weather lately but I wanted to catch everyone up
with what is happening in the area I fish in Breton Sound. The big
fish are definitely in Breton Sound around the outside rigs and all
along the rock jetties of the MRGO. I have been concentrating my efforts
more on the eastern part of the sound instead of the western ares
because the water is cleaner and I am catching beautiful trout in that
area. I was able to take a good friend of mine Heavy Helveston, who I
used to hunt deer with. He just got a new boat and really wanted to take
it out so he chartered me to come aboard his boat. He lives in the
Lafayette area and wanted to sample our waters. We got out a little late
and were able to catch the end of the incoming tide that was a steady
bite of 1-3 pound trout. He was throwing the VuDu shrimp under a cork
and I was tossing live shrimp. Both produced about the same and we
ended up with around 30 big specks and 1 red in the four or five hours
we fished. The weather finally looks like it is getting right and fish
are waiting to be caught. I have a opening this Sunday if someone wants
to hit Breton Sound for some big trout. Check out my website at http://www.marshland-adventures.com
or call me at (504) 458-8737. The new boat is great and can accommodate
up to six anglers. Live bait and fish cleaning are always included in
my charters - no extra charges.
